Child’s Month continues down a dark and horrifying path as yet another child is sexually assaulted. An 11-year-old girl was abducted and raped in St Catherine early Thursday morning, prompting an investigation.
Moon10 understands that the victim was forcefully taken from her home by a perpetrator armed with a knife. The assailant held the young girl at knifepoint at around 1 a.m. and led her away to an undisclosed area, and he sexually assaulted her.
The victim was released after being raped, and she told her family about the devastating incident. Her relatives subsequently reported it, and the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) was made aware, leading to a probe. The CISOCA is spearheading the investigation.
A similar incident happened earlier this month when two sisters were raped while heading home from school in Old Harbour, St Catherine. The young girls, ages 9 and 10, took a shortcut home in Thetford after school dismissed early on Teacher’s Day, May 7.
The girls were allegedly approached by a 35-year-old man who threatened them before leading them away into the bushes, where he raped them. When the suspect released them, they ran home and told their mother about the ordeal. The suspect reportedly dropped his ID and bank card near the scene, but there have been no reports of the suspect being captured by police.
Prior to this rape incident, another child was sexually assaulted and murdered in the same parish, which sparked nationwide outrage. The child, 9-year-old Kelsey Ferrigon, was raped and then strangled to death before her partially naked body was stuffed inside a barrel inside her home on Jobs Lane, Spanish Town.
The police launched a manhunt for the suspect, Giovanni ‘Coolie Man’ Ellis, who was identified as a friend of the victim’s family. He was later shot dead by police during an alleged confrontation.
