A 12-year-old girl from Westmoreland suffered multiple injuries after she was reportedly struck by a reckless motorcyclist who was allegedly performing stunts near her school late last month.
The distressed Frome Technical High School student, identified as Shaville Moodie, is now recovering at home and unable to sit her internal examinations as she continues to nurse several wounds, including a painful head injury. Meanwhile, the rider responsible for the collision reportedly fled the scene, avoiding immediate arrest.
Reports indicate that the child was standing just outside the school’s gate when the motorcycle crashed into her. The incident occurred shortly after classes ended on February 26, a time when large numbers of students were leaving the compound.

Moodie later explained that he mostly remembers before and after the collision. According to the young student, she seemingly lost consciousness during the impact and only remembers regaining awareness while lying on the ground in pain.
Moodie was treated by the school’s nurse before being rushed to the hospital. During that time, her mother, Shanelle Grant, was contacted by the school. Alarmed, she quickly left work to go to the hospital after being informed about the situation.
Later, when she saw her daughter’s condition, she felt overwhelmed and burst into tears. Moodie was later released to her mother, who took time off at work to care for her. Speaking with the media, Moodie said she feels deeply upset about missing her exams and being away from school.

She explained that staying home during the school week feels uncomfortable, noting that she misses her teachers and classmates and had been preparing to sit the tests before the accident disrupted her plans. Although she is slowly healing, Moodie continues to experience occasional headaches related to the head injury. She continues to take medication for the pain, which subsides when she does.
According to reports, Moodie’s head injury was the most severe one she received. The wound was particularly deep to the point where her skull was visible. It brought her significant pain at the time and continues to hurt occasionally. Other injuries that she was treated for were multiple abrasions across her body.
Despite her injuries, the young girl was reportedly more concerned about not being able to sit her exams. Moodie must now have her wounds dressed regularly as part of her recovery, and the stitches in her head remain in place due to the depth of the injury. Her mother also noted that she continues to complain about numbness and pain around the affected area.
The motorcyclist involved in the crash reportedly left the scene immediately after the collision. It was other onlookers and motorists who reportedly rushed to her aid. Early reports suggested the rider may have attempted to help stop the bleeding with his shirt, but Moodie later learned that the shirt actually belonged to a taxi driver who stopped to help.
Grant believes individuals in the area may know who the rider is but are withholding information from the police to protect him. She said the statements the police gathered from witnesses about his appearance were conflicting. School administrators say arrangements will be made for Moodie to sit for her internal examinations once she has recovered and is able to return to class.
