Thirteen people in a Taiwan restaurant sustained injuries when a black van barrelled into the establishment after the driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The eatery, a brunch spot on Fuqiang Road in Hualien City, switched from a peaceful setting to a devastating scene at 10:32 a.m. on Sunday.
Security cameras caught the terrifying sequence, beginning with the busy morning for the establishment. Customers were filmed digging into their meals, others chatting or preparing to leave, when the vehicle smashed through the glass facade.
The car strikes multiple motorcycles parked just outside the restaurant and hurtles through the entrance. Two customers seated by the window were struck and thrown to the floor. One of the individuals narrowly escapes being crushed beneath the vehicle, per a report.
The crash sends shards of glass raining down and ignites screams throughout the establishment. Before the video concludes, an employee springs into action, holding the unstable van at bay while assisting a guest on the floor.
Thirteen individuals had sustained injuries, but no casualties were reported. The thirteen injured comprised nine customers, three staff members, and the driver.
Two of the customers suffered broken bones, but the nature of the other injuries was not disclosed in the report published on USA Crime. However, it was reported that none of the wounds were deemed life-threatening, but all thirteen required medical attention.
According to USA Crime, a preliminary police report revealed that the crash occurred after the driver ran a red light. Police later identified the driver as a 47-year-old man named Su and said he was heading north on Fuqiang Road.
However, when he came upon the traffic light signalling the red light at the intersection, the vehicle kept going. Investigators believe the driver lost control after failing to stop, sending his vehicle careening into the restaurant. In the aftermath, the restaurant’s front wall lay in ruins, glass and debris strewn across the floor.
