A 14-year-old girl and her months-old baby have been reported missing, prompting the police to issue a high alert. The missing pair has been identified as Kenalya “Kay Kay” Burton and her 10-month-old daughter, Kiera “Blessing” Burton.
According to reports from the Santa Cruz Police, the teen mother and her child were last seen at their home in Pepper District, St Elizabeth, around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. Since then, there has been no word from them, and their mode of dress at the time remains unknown.
The police released a detailed description of their appearances, explaining that Kenalya is of brown complexion, stout build, and a height of about 5 feet 4 inches (162 centimetres).
The police are appealing to anyone who may have information on their whereabouts to contact the Santa Cruz Police Station at 876-966-2289, the 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
While the authorities maintain that both are officially missing, a few online users claim there may be more to the story. One user, identified as Deonnii Brown on Instagram under the handle @theeeonlyrassan.xo. 06.06.02, commented beneath a news alert claiming that the teenager is not actually missing.
In her post, Brown alleged that Kenalya “refused to go home” and that the police “had no choice but to put it out there that she’s missing.” The user further claimed that there were ongoing family issues, stating that Kenalya’s father’s side of the family had been caring for her in St Elizabeth and that she became pregnant while under their supervision.
As a result, the post suggested that there is an active Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) and police case involving her situation, which must be resolved before she can return to her mother. Brown also alleged that Kenalya may currently be staying with friends, describing them as individuals who are “neither under good parenting”, and implied that the teenager preferred that environment over being at home.
However, these claims have not been confirmed by the police and can not be deemed as credible until law enforcement officials verify this information.
