A 21-year-old man has died following a stabbing incident in St Mary. Since then, a 15-year-old boy was taken into police custody in connection with the killing that stemmed from an argument.
The incident unfolded last Friday morning, March 20, in the community of Belfield Works. Reports say a pair were in a verbal altercation that escalated into a fight around 9:45 p.m.
During the confrontation, the older man was stabbed. The man sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital by a passing motorist. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police say the teenager was taken into custody soon after the incident. While his identity has not been officially disclosed, allegations say the suspect is known by the alias “Shatta”.

The identity of the deceased has also not yet been officially released. However, a source said the victim’s name is Javarntai Taitam. Another report said the victim had recently completed high school, though the name of the school was not shared. It is unclear if the accused is currently attending school.
Police reported that a pair of scissors, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was recovered at the scene. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the dispute.
Up to March 21, 2026, St Mary has recorded 5 murders, compared to 7 murders during the same period in 2025, according to police statistics. While the parish continues to report relatively low figures compared to more crime-affected areas, the most recent killing has left residents shocked and relatives mourning.
The police have renewed their appeal for calm, urging citizens to find non-violent ways to resolve disagreements. They also emphasised the importance of reporting brewing conflicts before they intensify.
