A 16-year-old Jamaican boy was allegedly physically assaulted by the vice principal of his school. The mother, demanding justice, has spoken out about the incident that occurred on Wednesday. The student suffered broken teeth, facial swelling, and emotional scars.
Based on the mother’s statement to a local news outlet, the vice principal was aggressive with her son when he addressed the teen at school. The mother, recounting what her son told her, said the vice principal instructed him to pull up his pants. Although her son complied, the administrator became violent, shoving him against a wall, according to the Jamaica Star.
The teen, whose identity was not disclosed, questioned the vice principal’s action, but he was ordered to drop a pen he was holding. Rather than releasing the pen, he threw it into a bin, and that reportedly caused tensions to rise. The vice principal is accused of striking the teen on the arm with a microphone.
This made the situation escalate even further as the student, who was shocked by the hit, retaliated by hitting the administrator in the stomach. The retaliation led to a violent reaction from the vice principal, who allegedly began punching the student in the face, according to the report.
The student was left with a bloodied face, which made the mother feel devastated when she saw him returning home. She said the punches in the face caused a cut above his eye. Medical examinations confirmed that the boy suffered broken teeth and other injuries.
According to the news outlet, she met with the school to settle the matter, but the school was resistant. The school denied that the student was hit, claiming that they were restraining him. However, the institution offered to cover medical and medication costs, adding that they would need the board to approve the dental expenses first.
Additionally, she was later informed that a warrant had been issued for her son’s arrest, but the police later told her to work the matter out with the school. The mother acknowledged that her son has been in trouble at school for previous actions.
On a previous occasion, it was rumoured that he and other boys had an illegal drug at the school, and another incident involved him getting suspended after getting caught with tobacco, which led to a drug test that he failed. She expressed that his disciplinary issues did not warrant the physical assault. She is requesting the Ministry of Education to help her transfer her son to a different school.
