A 17-year-old from Tennessee fatally shot two students and injured another before killing himself at Antioch High School in Nashville on Wednesday. The 17-year-old shooter, identified as Solomon Henderson, was described as a crazed student in a news report detailing the incident, which occurred sometime after 11:00 a.m.
According to the report, Henderson took the bus to school and went to the bathroom when he arrived. When he exited the restroom, he had a firearm and went to “confront” a 16-year-old girl named Josselin Corea Escalante in the cafeteria. He reportedly approached her aggressively, and the exchange led to her being shot.
The report disclosed that he fired multiple shots, hitting both Escalante and another student. After shooting the students, Henderson turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, as per the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department report.
Escalante and the other student, who has not been identified, were pronounced dead at the hospital. A third student suffered injuries to the face, but it was not from the gun. The report also shared that the shooting was captured on security footage inside the cafeteria, showing the students and cafeteria workers cowering for cover when the shots were fired.
Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake shared that they have not determined the cause of the shooting, but they are investigating Henderson’s online footprint. Henderson, a member of the school’s ROTC program, was described as a smart student, a top performer, and a quiet individual by one of his classmates.
It was noted that Henderson was involved in a “prior incident,” but the chief did not provide information about the incident. A pastor in Nashville spoke about the alarming incident in a social media post, highlighting that the shooter “shot himself in the head” right in front of his daughter.
