A stabbing incident at a workplace in Bermondsey, southeast London, on Monday afternoon, left two men dead and two others injured. The incident unfolded around 1:00 p.m. on Long Lane, not far from local businesses including consultancy firm Prospira Global and housing provider Trademark Homes.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where a 58-year-old man was pronounced dead on-site. A second victim, aged 27, died at a hospital. A third man in his 30s remains and is currently fighting for his life in the hospital. Police say the violence did not appear to be random, as all individuals involved are believed to have known each other.
Following the attack, officers at the scene detained a 31-year-old man in connection with the incident, and he remains in custody on suspicion of murder. Reports say the suspect sustained injuries as well, but did not mention if they were stab wounds; they were described as non-life-threatening.
. Nevertheless, it confirmed that he was also taken to a local hospital, where he has been receiving medical treatment. According to the Metropolitan Police, the investigation “continues at pace” as detectives work to piece together the events that led to the deadly confrontation.
Labour MP Neil Coyle, who represents the area, described the situation as “truly awful,” while also emphasising that this appeared to be “a targeted, isolated incident.” His remarks aimed to reassure the public that there are no existing threats.
A local resident, who chose to remain anonymous, described the incident as frightening, explaining that she frequently walks by the area and now feels deeply unsettled. She shared that violent events like this are the last thing anyone expects to witness in the middle of an ordinary weekday. It’s terrifying. I walk past there all the time—it makes you feel really uneasy,” she said.
