On Monday, St Andrew police were called to a crime scene in a Kingston 11 community, where a man was stabbed to death. The incident involved a trader who is now facing a murder charge.
The Hunts Bay police have confirmed that the victim, 35-year-old Richard Walker, known to residents as “Richie”, died following a stabbing incident on Penn Avenue on December 15. The man charged in connection with his death is 23-year-old Adonii Hayles, also called “Bobo”.
According to reports, the events unfolded around 8:20 p.m. when an argument broke out between Walker and Hayles. The dispute turned into a physical confrontation, drawing the attention of relatives nearby. Family members reportedly intervened and managed to separate the two men, temporarily easing the situation.
However, the conflict continued later that day. Investigators say that after being separated, Hayles left the area. He later returned, this time armed with a knife. It is alleged that during this return, a confrontation ensued again, and Hayles used the weapon on Walker.
At the end of the altercation, Walker was suffering from multiple stab wounds. The severity of the injuries prompted immediate concern from those on the scene. Walker was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing care. His death sent shockwaves through the Penn Avenue community, where both men reside.
In the hours following the incident, Hayles reportedly made contact with law enforcement. Accompanied by a family member, he turned himself in hours after the incident. Police processed the matter, and he was formally charged with murder the following day.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about what sparked the initial argument, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing are ongoing. Hayles remains in lockup, and his court date has not yet been determined.
