A little girl narrowly escaped death when her small intestine got pulled out of her body during a family trip to Nayarit, Mexico, with her parents.
The child, Paloma Quatrini, is five years old, and her life has been permanently altered following the incident. Her parents are now seeking accountability and filed a lawsuit over what they describe as a preventable freak accident in a swimming pool.

Details outlined that Paloma was days away from turning 4 years old when the incident happened. During the family vacation, Paloma was in a shallow pool area when a sudden malfunction involving the drain allegedly created a powerful suction. The force trapped her in place, leaving her unable to free herself.
Her parents, who were nearby at the time, reportedly rushed to help but struggled against the strength of the pull. It took a short but critical window before the system was shut off, allowing the child to be released.

Her injuries were serious and needed immediate medical attention. After doctors worked to stabilise her, she was flown back to the United States for further treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Over the following months, she underwent several major procedures as doctors tried to repair the damage and help her body function as normally as possible again.

According to the claim, the child now requires ongoing medical care, including a nightly routine in which nutrients are delivered directly into her bloodstream through a tube for extended hours.
Doctors have warned that she could eventually need a major organ transplant, depending on how her condition progresses. Those involved in her treatment say cases like hers are incredibly rare, and survival alone is something they don’t often see. Even so, Paloma has been pushing through recovery, though it’s clear she will need ongoing medical care for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, her family has taken legal action in Pittsburgh, where they live, arguing that the pool equipment played a role in the incident. Their attorneys say the drainage system is at the centre of what went wrong. The case wasn’t always structured this way; earlier filings included other parties, but those were later dropped as the focus shifted.
The company named in the lawsuit has already raised concerns about where the case is being handled, noting that the incident happened outside the United States. But the family’s legal team insists it makes sense to pursue the matter at home, especially given where most of those affected are based.
