The Jamaican Constabulary Force is following “strong leads” to unravel the mysterious murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle. The 77-year-old was slain inside her home located at the Caymanas Country Club Estates in St. Catherine.
Her deceased body was found on Tuesday around 10:00 a.m. by a neighbour who grew concerned when Gayle did not appear to do her regular morning routine. According to a report, citing statements from Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Christopher Phillips, Gayle suffered several stab wounds to her neck and a forehead injury.
Her car was also missing up until Wednesday morning. Reports stated that the police discovered the 2018 grey Mercedes-Benz 180 CL motorcar was found around 9:00 a.m. on Dyke Road, St. Catherine.
According to a report, the police are investigating deeply probing how the murderer gained entrance to the property. Footage of a strange man at Gayle’s residence was captured on a doorbell camera, showing the veteran journalist on her front porch interacting with the man. Gayle seemingly knew the man as she also offered him a glass of water.
Neighbours also recalled her speaking to a man around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, which was the last time she was seen. The police are still investigating the identity of the man.

Meanwhile, Gayle’s cousin urged law enforcement to quickly catch the “animal.” Her cousin, Michael Daubon, is unaware of who the man on the surveillance footage is, stating that he never saw the man before.
The veteran court reporter recently received praise from the Press Association of Jamaica (PSOJ) for dedicating four decades to journalism. Gayle’s contribution includes high-profile court cases for the Gleaner.
