Early this morning, authorities said a bar altercation in Burlington resulted in a shooting death.
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, just after midnight, a Community Service Officer (CSO) at City Hall Park sent radio traffic to the Burlington Police Department dispatch center.
According to the CSO, he heard several gunshots. When the police arrived, they found a man who had been shot. They started CPR right away. A nearby off-duty policeman also offered assistance. Simultaneously, a 45-caliber handgun was found, and a female suspect, identified as Aaliyah Johnson, 22, was taken into custody by another responding officer.
The crowd surrounding the officers made it difficult for them to attempt to treat the victim medically. Shell casings, bullets, and blood evidence were all present at the crime scene. Thus, it was necessary to drive the audience back.
Teville Williams, 30, of Stowe, was the man who was struck. After being taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center, he was pronounced deceased there.
Williams and Johnson got into a fight within Red Square, according to the police, during which Williams is accused of assaulting Johnson. The bar staff asked the two groups to exit through different entrances.
Johnson went through one door and turned to face Williams on Church Street. It is then said that she shot him multiple times.
The Department will release additional details as the matter moves forward. This inquiry is still in its early phases. It is not thought that this gunshot is connected to the incidents that were detailed in a press release issued by the BPD on Friday, August 23. The Burlington Police Department’s number to report any information concerning this event is (802) 658-2704.
