Social media users are sharing their concerns pertaining to Police officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force because, since the start of the year 2024, it has been alleged that every week a police officer loses their life in some unfortunate situations.
Compared to the same period in 2023, traffic crashes and fatalities in Jamaica have decreased in the first and second quarters of 2024 as of August 23, 2024:
- Collisions: 2024 saw 16.27% fewer collisions than 2023.
- Deaths: 10.66% fewer people died in 2024 than in 2023
The decline has been ascribed by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to heightened enforcement and public education initiatives. Increasing patrols, setting up more checkpoints, and concentrating on high-risk behaviours like speeding and intoxicated driving are some of these initiatives.
Driving at excessive speeds, passing at corners, speeding on wet roads, riding motorcycles without helmets, and distractions like mobile phone use are some of the primary causes of traffic fatalities in Jamaica.
