A Tesla Cybertruck crashed and started blazing on Wednesday, killing two people and leaving one critically injured. The incident occurred at around 3:10 a.m. in Northern California when occupants of the Cybertruck were reportedly heading home from a function, according to the Piedmont Police Chief, Jeremy Bowers.
There were no other vehicles involved in the collision, and the police are theorising that speed caused the tragic accident. The police have shared with the media that an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, the police did not disclose the rest of the details of the incident to the media.
According to a report, the survivor was pulled from the crashed Cybertruck by an individual who attended the same event and travelled in a separate vehicle. The names of the victims were withheld to protect the privacy of the family.
The report further states the flames of the burning Cybertruck were extinguished after firefighters arrived at the scene. The police initially attempted to put out the flames with fire extinguishers. The fire was described as “more along the lines of a typical car fire” by Piedmont Fire Chief Dave Brannigan.
The Tesla Cybertruck was recently recalled for the sixth time due to safety issues. However, Bowers stated that there is no indication that the tragic accident was caused by mechanical effects.
