A British prison guard was sentenced to 15 months in jail for having sex with an inmate in a viral video.
The guard, Linda De Sousa Abreu, received her sentencing on January 6 in southwest London at Islesworth Crown Court. 30-year-old Abreu, who is a resident of Fulham, admitted to having sex with the inmate last July when she pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office.
Abreu, a guard at HMP Wandsworth, was caught having sex with an inmate in June, and it was revealed that she had been sexually active with the inmate several times. This led to her confessing to a previous sexual encounter that was filmed with the same inmate.
The video was taken by another prisoner in the cell, where Abreu was seen kneeling in front of her sex partner as she seemingly performed oral sex before engaging in sexual intercourse. Abreu can be seen wearing her uniform.
The other prisoner was filming with what Judge Martin Edmunds KFC called an “unauthorised phone.” The unidentified prisoner was smoking and expressed that it was like watching a movie. The video was shared online and went viral.
Edmunds noted that the video lasted over 4 minutes, and during that time Abreu “participated with evident enthusiasm.” The judge also mentioned the other prisoner encouraging the act with commentary such as, “Guys, we made history,” and, “This is how we live at Wandsworth, bruv.”
According to the Telegraph, Abreu unintentionally recorded another sexual act with the inmate on her body camera.
According to BBC reports, Andrew Davy, the governor of HMP Wandsworth, stated that Abreu’s actions have led other prisoners to pursue other female guards, thinking they were now “fair game.”
