Dancehall veteran Beenie Man firmly maintains his stance that he is the King of Dancehall. The debate over whether he or fellow deejay Vybz Kartel is currently superior in the dancehall industry seems never-ending. Many social media users have voiced their opinions, with the majority crowning Vybz Kartel as the current king.
While they acknowledged Beenie Man’s legacy and referred to him as a “legend” and the previous King, Beenie Man strongly rejects that his reign is over.
After the reputable American music magazine, Billboard, also acknowledged Vybz Kartel as the King, Beenie Man shared a video dating back to 2009. The video shows the 2009 staging of Reggae Sumfest when Vybz Kartel stands alongside Beenie Man, praising him as the king and expressing the level of respect he has for the veteran.
In the caption, Beenie Man wrote, “Straight from the horses mouth, “So weh did war bout”?! 1King.”

The post, made on Thursday, immediately circulated on social media, prompting internet users to express that his reign ended years ago. Some added that Vybz Kartel respectfully paid homage to him, and he should return the gesture and let go of the title.
One social media user wrote, “King Yellowman (80s – 90s) Beenie man (90s – 2000s) Vybz kartel (2010s – present). And one day vybz kartel time will be up. So weh the fuss fa? Beenie u a legend relax mayne.”
Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel has not responded to the post made by Beenie Man.
