The King of Dancehall saga between Jamaican deejays Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man has transitioned into music, inspiring intriguing lyrics of their new songs. The deejays previewed their separate tracks over the weekend, opening the door for a lyrical clash.
Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, who first teased his song, referenced the drama by stating that someone was trying to take his crown and asked how they intended to do it. Dancehall veteran Beenie Man seemingly responded by teasing a song titled One King.
Beenie Man referred to his rival in the track as “Humpty Dumpty.” He and Vybz Kartel did not mention each other’s names. However, he made it evident that he was taking lyrical jabs at Vybz Kartel, who recently bought a Porsche, by expressing that he would speed off in his Maserati and leave his Porsche-driving rival in the dust.

After the songs sparked a conversation about the pair having a lyrical clash, Vybz Kartel took to social media to shut down the speculation. He posted a video, indicating his focus remains on leading a positive life with his family and God.
“Gaza Nation, it has come to my attention that Vybz Kartel is involved in a clash or some lyrical feud. Let me reassure you, Gaza Nation, nothing could be further from the truth. A positivity Vybz Kartel a deal with right now, family, business, money, and God, no clashing; we have no time for that, positivity around here,” he expressed in the Sunday Instagram post.

Vybz Kartel received many positive responses from fans and support from celebrities like the Queen of Dancehall Spice and American rapper Busta Rhymes. There were also comments suggesting that he was running away from the clash and they should compete for the crown. Clashing is a significant part of Jamaica’s dancehall culture and is always encouraged by the locals to settle feuds.
However, Vybz Kartel has been avoiding negativity since his release from prison, so there is no telling if he will revert to his old grimy style to settle the longstanding debate of who wears the crown.
