A man who was fatally shot during an alleged standoff with the police has been revealed to be a suspect in the murder of Jamaican TikToker Niah Gang. According to a news report, the suspect, Romaine Thompson, was killed in Downs, Manchester, around 4:10 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the report, the police carried out an operation in the Downs district to locate Thompson. When the police found him, he was reportedly reluctant to surrender and started shooting at the police.
During the standoff, one policeman was saved by his vest, causing him to only sustain minor injuries. Thompson sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police retrieved a firearm from the scene, per the report.
Niah Gang, born Xavier Fogah, was murdered on December 7 at his home in Panton Lane, St. Catherine, while streaming live on TikTok. His murder sparked nationwide rage and garnered international attention.
Along with being a suspect in the shooting of Niah Gang, Thompson is also a suspect in the murder of a police officer.
The deceased police constable, Justin Martin, was killed on August 5, 2023, at a bar in Sandy Bay, Clarendon. Thompson, who goes by the alias ‘Rum Stain,’ is also connected to a number of crimes in St. Catharine, as per the report.
