After quickly reclaiming his position in Dancehall, Vybz Kartel has made a smashing comeback on the international music scene. The versatile deejay teamed up with prominent rappers Busta Rhymes and Akon on a new song titled Crazy, reinforcing his position in the international space. The song, released on February 21, 2025, marks Vybz Kartel’s first major international song since he was released from prison and freed from a murder charge in July 2024.
Crazy is produced by The Conglomerate Entertainment, founded by Busta Rhymes, Hitmaker Music Group, and Hitmaker Distro. The song is laced with dancehall rhythms and hip-hop beats. While each entertainer on the track has a diverse style, their talent effortlessly blends with their style and flow, complementing each other.
The song features the entertainers bragging about how “crazy” with gangster lyrics. Crazy begins with Vybz Kartel praising God in the intro along with words from the two hip-hop icons. Akon takes over the chorus, which kickstarts the track. After Akon sings about showing off how crazy he can be, Busta Rhymes enters the first verse, rapping about his level of insanity. He demonstrates his iconic rapping skills while warning foes not to get him started.
In the second verse, Vybz Kartel deejays about being crazy after spending 13 years in prison. He brags about his riches and stardom, adding that he was crazy in the past, but God has changed him.
“Mi did crazy, but God change me…Nutn dem a do, it cyah phase me…badmind hate me true mi life sweet life pastry…It incredible, how yuh fi a watch mi life and don’t’ believe in miracle. God move me from a prison cell to the pinnacle,” he deejays.
Vybz Kartel has had a triumphant return after his release from prison. He will reinforce his grand return to the international stage with his first international show at the Wireless Festival in London while performing alongside renowned rapper Drake.
He earned his first Grammy award nomination for the Best Reggae Category and received an honorary award, the Impact Award, at the 2025 MOBO Awards for his global influence. When accepting the Impact Award on February 18 at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, Kartel expressed that his journey has taught him to believe in “faith, resilience, and the transformative power of music.”
