Emerging Dancehall artiste Lyriii is quickly climbing YouTube’s Trending chart with his newly released single Respect. Lyriii, a Jamaican student, captured the attention of many music enthusiasts after he released the song in February. Since the song, along with visuals, dropped on YouTube, it has garnered over 224,000 views.
Over the weekend, the song took the No. 7 spot on YouTube’s Trending chart in Jamaica. On Monday, the track was seen at No. 4, surpassing Malie Don’s Badman Anthem and Chronic Law’s Cry featuring Collect Di Bred.
Respect is produced by Countree Hype and Chuck Starr, who also mixed & mastered the single.
The music video features a curvaceous female helping him to get ready in the morning. He sports his khaki uniform and school bag as he shows off his popularity with the ladies, who can’t keep their hands off him.
The video also features many students dancing and vibing to the song. Other clips show Lyriii in a classroom, caressing a woman, who is portrayed to be someone’s wife, and deejaying on a vehicle at night.
In the lyrics, he expresses that he prefers to have sexual relationships with someone’s wife over having a girlfriend. He mentions speeding off in his vehicle and boasts about the women he has been with. He emphasises that women must have respect and brags about having a lot of money, stating that he is rich and he is only a child. He briefly mentions taking out his foes and adds lyrics about scamming, which are popular themes in Dancehall.
The music video has received much praise from viewers, garnering over 25,000 likes. One of the viewers shared encouraging words, saying, “Juvi, you are better than enough of those artists. Yeah, I listen to the best. Believe that you continue to do it, and take a book while you are doing it. The future looks good already.”
Another said, “Honestly, Lyriii is very lyrical and has great potential to be a great artist, and also the Trap Riddim is much easier on the eardrums.”
