The murder of a 26-year-old businessman is garnering a lot of attention online along with criticism. News of Stephan Trenchfield’s murder was initially met with condolences from the public. Trenchfield, a resident of TopHill, St. Elizbeth was shot and killed on Constant Spring main road in St. Andrew. The reports state that the St. Elizabeth-based businessman was travelling in a Mercedes Benz motor vehicle when he was attacked by armed men.
The gunmen were travelling on a motorcycle and opened fire at Trenchfield in the area of Phil’s Hardware and Rubis Gas Station. Trenchfield was later pronounced dead at Andrew’s Memorial Hospital. Trenchfield owned a car dealership, and it is alleged that he has a 2-year-old child. Trenchfield received many condolences from social media users, who left heartfelt comments.

A subsequent news report shared that the police say his killing might be affiliated with a dispute over the proceeds of lottery scamming. The police have not shared a detailed report on their statement, based on the report. This recent update ignited some criticism from the public when it was shared on social media.
Amid the comments, Instagram user Willryanwilson stated that former partners of the young businessman declared his innocence on social media, but his family knew otherwise. “His ex gfs were out making stories about how him innocent and a good yute. Even his family knew he was up to no good, but I digress,” he wrote.
In response to the comment, user diamond4saphire expressed, “So him never know him have 2 year old when him a do crime??? Kmt unuh sick dog stomach with unuh foolishness.”
However, several other commenters indicated that his murder may have been linked to something else.
Instagram user t.samgordon indicated that it was false news, which Jamaicans always preferred, while another user stated that many people are using businesses as a cover for criminal activities.
