Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper has been receiving treatment for her mental health following her arrest, and her family says that she is steadily improving. Many of her fans and colleagues in the music industry have expressed concern over her mental health after she went on a tirade on social media in February.
Lisa denied being mentally unstable, highlighting that a “spiritual warfare” triggered her actions. However, her family shared that she suffered a mental episode and is receiving treatment. For the past two weeks, Lisa Hyper has been at the University Hospital of the West Indies receiving treatment.
Speaking on her recovery, her sister, Tasha Gooden, told the Jamaica Observer, “We’re grateful to share that Lisa is making steady progress in her recovery. It’s been a challenging time, but with God’s grace, the care of her medical team, and the love and support from her father, myself, and close friends, she is getting better each day.”
Gooden also expressed gratitude to the fans and well-wishers for their prayers, as well as their kind and encouraging words. She mentioned that persons, including some of Lisa’s colleagues in the music industry, contacted them to check up on her and “lifted her up in prayer.”
While she appreciates everyone who has shown concern, she encouraged them to keep the Soul Cry artiste in their thoughts “as she continues her healing journey.” Gooden continued by telling the media that the family trusts in God’s plan as they hope Lisa Hyper makes a full recovery soon.
In February, the artiste consistently turned heads with shocking videos that circulated on social media. The videos apparently showed her suffering manic episodes. Most of her videos captured her ranting about persons she was affiliated with in the music industry, causing some of the prominent figures to unfollow her on social media. A frequently discussed subject in her videos and livestreams was her desire for dancehall artiste Dexta Daps, whom she alleged to be her former sexual partner.
Lisa Hyper, who is a former member of Vybz Kartel‘s Gaza empire, was later arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and was charged with assault. Most of the incident was filmed on the entertainer’s live stream, showing her in verbal altercations with the police and the airport employees.
