Emerging dancehall artiste Lyriii has taken a different direction with his new song, Survive. The 15-year-old has released a conscious song on March 17, offering uplifting words that appeal to individuals facing hardships. Survive marks Lyriii’s second published song, as it follows on the heels of his controversial breakout single Respect, which earned him nationwide recognition.
Unlike Respect, which garnered criticism for having inappropriate lyrical content and visuals, Survive focuses on the young deejay telling a story about working hard to achieve his goals. The song, produced by Chuck Starr and Countree Hype, is currently at No. 21 on YouTube’s Trending chart with over 32,000 views.
The song begins with the teen declaring that he will survive and his voice will be remembered by the nation. He expresses his desire to become rich and buy his mother a car. He indicates that he is motivated by his “haters,” crediting them for his achievements. His lyrics encourage his peers to work hard and believe in themselves despite what anyone says. He also mentions that women leaving is the least of his worries while expressing his lack of interest in love.
The music video, shot and edited by Times & Zise, begins with a little boy portrayed to be the young artiste. He goes from doing his schoolwork to watching a concert on the television. Other scenes show the teen DJing and vibing with his peers to the music. Another scene shows him at the beach with the Jamaican flag.
In response to the song, fans have been showing their approval, expressing that they love the message of the song. One fan wrote, “Bredda unu plz nurture tha talent yah youth ago places… management do the right…youth yah next big thing.. people unu listen the word of the song ..the medz deep…BBC.”
