A mother is demanding justice after her six-year-old daughter was allegedly raped by an 11-year-old boy at a Corporate Area primary school. The mother spoke out about the disturbing incident that has reportedly left her daughter traumatised after the school failed to reprimand the boy and showed a lack of remorse.
The incident, which occurred on March 11, has sparked investigations by the police, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), and the Office of the Children’s Advocate, according to TVJ News.
The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, told the local TV news that she was horrified upon learning of the ordeal that her daughter had suffered at the Jesse Rippold Primary School. According to the mother, the sexual assault took place in a classroom after school hours.
Recounting the disturbing details, she shared that her daughter was waiting at the pavilion for her transportation home when the boy approached her. The mother stated that her daughter was not familiar with the boy because they had never spoken before that day when he approached her with an inappropriate question.
“The little boy asked her, ‘Has anyone ever touched you on your vagina before?’ And she said, ‘No, ’” the mother explained. She said the boy dragged her daughter to a classroom far away, where he sexually assaulted her. According to the mother, the school showed her security footage of the boy leading her daughter into a classroom.
Afterwards, her daughter could be seen running out of the class six minutes later. When speaking to investigators, the little girl said the little boy had sexual intercourse with her, according to the mother. Her daughter also said she was able to leave the classroom when she promised him that she would keep the assault a secret.
During a meeting with the boy’s parents and the police, the boy reportedly said that he wanted to teach the girl the difference between good and bad “touch” after he heard her and her friends talking about sex.
The Jamaican mother, who is also a victim of rape, went on to explain her frustration with the school’s lack of accountability. She claims that despite the seriousness of the matter, the school’s administration and the Ministry of Education have not taken decisive action.
“The school has not taken any disciplinary action against the child. They told me that he will need counselling. They will put him in black and white, and they will have somebody monitoring him, and he’s not allowed to do extra lessons,” the mother told the news outlet. “When I went to the Ministry of Education, they said to me that the school is a good school, and they would not want me to give up my child’s space. I went to a meeting with the board, and the only thing I took away from the meeting was basically do not tell the media. Try to allow the child to live in the moment and for her to forget about it.”
Latoya also said that she has not received reassurance from law enforcement. “The only thing that I’m being told is that he is a minor. He cannot be charged,” she stated. Following the incident, the mother removed her daughter from the school and enrolled her in a different school. The mother said her daughter now displays signs of trauma, such as issues with sleeping.
