Three women are facing criminal charges after allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing a large sum of money. The apartment that was targeted is located in Plantation Heights, St. Andrew.
The apartment, which belonged to another woman, was robbed on March 27, according to Jamaica Gleaner. The three women, identified as 66-year-old Yvette Johnstone, 48-year-old Zodia Ramdatt, and 35-year-old Shari Johnstone, are accused of stealing $800,000 in cash.
The news outlet also reported that the three suspects are all residents of Independence City, St. Catherine. The two Johnstone women and Ramdatt have been charged with housebreaking, larceny, and conspiracy.
According to reports from the Duhaney Park police cited by the news outlet, the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. after the homeowner left her residence. She securely locked her bedroom door and left a household helper in charge of the premises.
Authorities say the three women arrived at the apartment and demanded the keys to the locked bedroom from the household helper. However, the helper denied their requests, and the women proceeded to forcefully open the door. According to the news outlet, they reportedly gained entry after they used a wrench to force the door off its hinges.
When the women were finally inside the room, they reportedly took the cash from a chest of drawers and fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.
The break-in was reported to the police, and an investigation was launched that resulted in the arrests of all three women. It has not been disclosed if the stolen money was recovered.
As the case moves forward, arrangements are being made for the accused to appear before the court based on the report. Their court dates are currently being finalised.
It is currently unclear how the three accused of stealing are familiar with the victim, as there is limited information on the case. As authorities continue investigating the matter, further details may emerge as the case progresses.
