A teenage girl and a taxi operator were arrested for the murder of another man. Police believe that a love triangle led to the victim, 25-year-old Kenardo Thompson, being fatally shot on Swansea Avenue, St Andrew, on March 24.
The accused, a 15-year-old schoolgirl and a 28-year-old taxi driver, are facing multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorised possession of ammunition, according to the Jamaica Gleaner.
The taxi operator has been identified as Danico Williamson, while the teen’s identity has not been disclosed due to her age. Both are residents of Whitehall Avenue in St. Andrew.
According to reports from the Constant Spring Police, the schoolgirl was in a romantic relationship with Williamson and Thompson. She and Williamson reportedly concocted a plan to murder Thompson by luring him to the location where the attack occurred.
According to the police, the teen lured Thompson to Swansea Avenue around 11:00 a.m. Thompson was walking in the area when an orange Kia Picanto approached him. Williamson and two other unidentified men were inside the vehicle. When the three men exited the car, they allegedly held Thompson and shot him multiple times.
After the shooting, they fled the scene before police arrived. The police in the area responded swiftly after hearing the gunfire. Upon arrival, they observed the getaway vehicle speeding from the location.
Police followed the vehicle and intercepted it before it got away. Williamson, who reportedly attempted to escape over a wall, was detained. Subsequent investigations led authorities to the teenage suspect.
The schoolgirl was taken into custody on Tuesday, and charges were laid against both individuals on Wednesday. According to the news outlet, a court date is currently being arranged.
Law enforcement officials have not released details about the other two suspects seen in the vehicle.
