A man was killed when a wall of a building under construction collapsed on top of him while he was walking on the street in India. Multiple people were struck by the wall, which reportedly fell from six stories high.
The wall collapsed in Madhu Vihar, located in the nation’s capital, New Delhi. Reports detail that the incident, which was caught on surveillance camera, occurred on Friday night. The region was experiencing strong dust storms, heavy wind, and rain when the wall collapsed.
According to USA Crime, citing a statement from Vineet Kumar, ADCP 1 East Delhi, emergency services received a PCR call at approximately 7 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered that the collapse occurred at a six-story building still under construction. He confirmed that one individual died in the incident and two others were transported to the hospital with injuries.
“We received a PCR call at approximately 7 p.m. When we arrived, we discovered that a wall had collapsed and that a six-story building was still under construction. Two people were hurt, and one person died. The hospital has received the injured,” Vineet Kumar said.
He also explained that the powerful dust storm appears to have weakened the structure, leading to the fatal collapse. “The dust storm caused the wall to collapse,” he added.
In the footage, the victim is seen walking along a busy road when a portion of the wall suddenly gives way. The falling debris struck him and at least three other individuals. The man and two others fall to the ground under the impact, while a woman in red narrowly escapes being struck.
One of the individuals stands shortly after, but the man appears motionless on the ground. Another clip shows more debris falling along the side of the street. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed. Additional footage shows authorities investigating the scene and the building.
