Many fans were concerned after seeing dancehall star Govana with a head injury while performing in St Ann. Over the Easter weekend, the DJ stunned fans by still delivering his set with a bleeding head injury before being taken to the hospital.
His powerful act of endurance, when he refused to cancel the show, garnered him many compliments from fans. A video of his short but energetic five-minute set has been circulating on social media. The deejay can be seen performing while his wound is secured with a makeshift bandage.
The incident stemmed from misjudgment, according to Govana, who took to social media to reassure his fans. He reportedly misjudged his stage entrance, which led to him colliding with a mounted screen. After treating his fans with a brief live show, he received medical attention at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital.
Govana, legally named Romeo Nelson, spoke on the incident in an Instagram video to put his fans at ease.
Taking to Instagram afterwards, Govana posted a candid update for his fans. “Mi good, mi active,” he said in a video. He specifically thanked the hospital staff, singling out Dr Reid and nurse Miss Donna for their care. He said that while he suffered “a whole heap of blood loss”, he did not suffer a concussion, so he bandaged the wound and gave the fans a short live shot.
He emphasised that the video served to reassure fans that he was doing fine and not to seek sympathy. He also expressed that he is grateful to be alive. His fans flooded the comments with messages of support, applauding his resilience and dedication.

Govana now turns his attention to two upcoming shows in the United States. He is set to perform in Albany, New York, before appearing at Aidonia’s 20th Anniversary Celebration Concert, which will be hosted at the UBS Arena on May 3.
Govana also continues to ride the wave of success from his latest single, Morning Sir, which has surpassed one million views on YouTube within a month of its release.
