Well-known social media personality Candy Wow is facing an assault charge and made her first court appearance on Wednesday. Candy’s case was mentioned at the St Catherine Parish Court, where she was remanded.
In court, the judge was informed that Candy, illegally named Keresia Brown, has suggested to authorities that she is not a Jamaican. According to the Jamaican Gleaner, Candy suggested she is an Irish national. The court also heard that she has multiple identities that she has been operating under.
She allegedly said that she had changed her name by deed poll, a legal document used to formally change someone’s name. This revelation prompted the court to contact the Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) to investigate and uncover her nationality.
When asked how she would plead to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm, Candy pleaded not guilty. She also informed Judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that she has not secured legal representation. The judge remanded her to get an attorney by the next court date, which is set for May 16.
Candy’s legal woes stem from an alleged attack on a woman that occurred at her stall in Old Harbour. According to the local news report, Candy allegedly attacked a woman on April 13. The complainant, whose identity has not been revealed, is a vendor in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
She claimed she was selling at her stall when Candy attacked and assaulted her. She reported the alleged assault to the police, and Candy was later arrested and subsequently charged.

Candy is known for her comedic personality and became popular on the internet after a video of her telling viewers to “drink water with wow” went viral several years ago.
