The police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who reportedly fired shots at a man near a basic school in St Catherine. The incident occurred at a basic school in Gordon Pen, Spanish Town.
The brazen attack has resulted in an investigation by the Spanish Town police. Local news outlet Jamaica Gleaner reported that the incident stemmed from a dispute involving the mother of the suspect’s child. She was also threatened at gunpoint when the incident unfolded on Wednesday.
According to the report, the suspect went to the basic school around 12:05 p.m. and saw that his child’s mother was there with the man. The sight of them being in each other’s company reportedly infuriated the suspect. As a result, he allegedly attacked the man, punching him multiple times.
The violent confrontation escalated even worse after the suspect left the scene and returned with a gun, according to the report. He allegedly then opened fire at the man, and the man had to run away. After firing multiple shots, he reportedly aimed his gun at the mother of his child. The gun was reportedly pointed in her face while he issued threats, including that he would kill her.
The man who was assaulted filed the report with the local police, leading to the investigation. The suspect may be charged with shooting with intent, assault at common law and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Following the report, some locals expressed outrage and deep concern over the situation. Multiple users condemned the suspect’s alleged actions, suggesting the incident stemmed from jealousy and an inability to accept a breakup. One comment read, “This feels like the mother moved on and he wasn’t okay with it.” Another declared, “Dem bwoy ya weak. If the relationship over, move on nuh‼️” Others took a more aggressive stance, calling for justice.
