A vehicle in Brazil collided with a young woman when she was crossing the road while using her phone. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Brunna Costa, survived the collision but remains hospitalised after the Sunday evening incident in Iporá.
KrudPlug reported that Brunna was along the corner of Jacinto Moreira Street and 15 de Novembro Avenue when the incident occurred. Surveillance footage from across the street shows Brunna walking near the roadway. The teen is allegedly using her phone to film a live performance at a nearby bar, per the report.
With the bar across the street, she begins to cross the road, which is when a blue car suddenly appears. The vehicle quickly approaches her, slamming into her and sending her body airborne before crashing to the pavement.
Rather than stopping, the driver of the vehicle flees the scene immediately, leaving bystanders in shock. Patrons at the nearby bar quickly go to Brunna’s aid as she lies motionless on the ground.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched, and she was transported in critical condition to the State Emergency Hospital (Hugol) in Goiânia. According to KrudPlug, she was placed in the intensive care unit. In a statement to Mais Goiás, hospital officials confirmed that Brunna’s condition is critical and she currently relies on machines to breathe. Known affectionately as “Bruninha” on social media, the teen had recently celebrated her 18th birthday on March 11.
Her father, speaking with local media outlet IG News, shared that she is sedated and intubated. It was also disclosed that the teen had undergone several tests, including MRI scans of her knee, thigh, cervical spine, and abdomen. Authorities have since confirmed that the driver responsible for the hit-and-run has been identified, though as of Wednesday, he has not turned himself in.
