Three people were left with injuries on Mother’s Day after a fight involving gunfire erupted during a brunch at a North Carolina restaurant. Officials said the fight was between two families who went to Big Ed’s restaurant on Sunday.
It is unclear what started the dispute, but an eyewitness said the families inside Big Ed’s restaurant’s Falls of Neuse Road location in the Raleigh community were initially arguing. The verbal altercation turned physical with people punching each other. At some point, one individual withdrew a gun.
ABC11, citing the Raleigh Police Department, only identified the shooter as a male. When the altercation became physically violent, chaos unfolded inside the restaurant with screams as diners darted out the door and ran for cover. The armed suspect reportedly aimed his gun when he discharged his weapon.
He allegedly released multiple shots. Footage released online begins seconds before the gunshots are fired. The gunshots cause panic among diners as they run to safety. People can also be seen fighting on the floor.
A bullet injured one individual, causing them to suffer a flesh wound. Along with the gunshot victim, two others had sustained other injuries during the fight. The injured were transported to the hospital, where they were confirmed to have non-life-threatening injuries, per the report. ABC also reported that no arrests have been made as of Monday.
The report added that a cashier at The Butcher’s Market witnessed people sprinting past the shopfront. The store manager, Olive Little, working nearby, said she was disheartened. She explained that people were celebrating with their moms, and she found it sad that such violence occurred during the celebration.
In a statement shared Sunday night, Big Ed expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their quick response and also expressed gratitude to customers for their patience and support. The restaurant temporarily closed and will resume business on Tuesday, allowing their staff to recover and be with family.
