Footage has surfaced of a man being gunned down in Nazaré da Mata, Brazil, on May 14, which reports say was not an isolated attack. Violence struck the Eugênio Bandeira District late Wednesday when two men fell to gunfire in separate attacks.
KrudPlug reported that the first murder was captured on a nearby camera. The victim, identified as 21-year-old João Vitor José da Silva, was chased down by three armed men at 6:33 p.m. Despite his efforts, João Vitor could not escape the assailants, who opened fire on him just outside his home. The chilling pursuit ended with the victim falling to the ground while his attackers continued to shoot. Before fleeing the scene, one of the assailants briefly rifled through João Vitor’s pocket.
João Vitor’s body was discovered by his father shortly after. The distraught father, Eronildo José da Silva, told authorities he was inside the house when the shots rang out. He said he heard the explosions and went to check when they ceased. Upon exiting the house, he saw his son lying on the ground with multiple bullet wounds.
Only hours later, another man, identified as 34-year-old Pedro Ermírio Longo, met a similar fate. He was reportedly on his doorstep when an unknown shooter opened fire. Officers were called to the scene and found Pedro’s distraught partner, Adriano Cosmo da Silva, at the scene. According to reports, Adriano Cosmo, otherwise known as ‘Nani’, was waiting near the body when police arrived.
It is unclear if multiple perpetrators were involved in the second shooting incident. Additionally, officials did not confirm if the same three men in the first attack were responsible for the second fatal shooting. Following the double shooting, Nazaré da Mata Police Station has launched an intense investigation. The assailants, who have not yet been identified by the police, are still at large.
