A young man from is now has been charged in connection with the murder of his uncle in the community of Gayle, St Mary. The accused, Elsworth Gordon, was formally charged on Wednesday, days after he reportedly committed the gruesome murder with a knife at their home on Labour.
A local news report, citing the police, detailed that the 24-year-old accused, who also goes by “Junior”, allegedly stabbed 52-year-old Wordsworth Gordon to death. Moon10 understands that Gordon, better known as “Max”, was known in the community as a skilled mechanic. It is unclear what led to the brutal stabbing on Friday night, May 23.
It is understood that Gordon’s body was discovered by his nine-year-old niece, Junior’s younger sister. According to reports, the little girl made a distressing call to their father around 9 p.m., telling him that Junior was holding a knife and covered in blood. She also said their uncle was lying motionless in the living room.
After the alarming phone call, the concerned father tried calling his brother’s phone. According to reports, Junior answered the call and reportedly admitted to stabbing his uncle.
When the father arrived at the house, he found his brother’s body on the living room floor. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was placed on a generator outside on the verandah. Acting quickly, the father called the police for help. He and some nearby residents held Junior to prevent him from leaving the scene.
Police later took Junior into custody and transported him under guard to Port Maria Hospital for medical attention. The Jamaica Observer reported that sources close to the family shared that Junior is believed to have been struggling with mental health challenges, though details remain unclear.
On Wednesday, Junior was questioned by detectives in the presence of his attorney. He was subsequently charged and awaits a court date. Authorities in St Mary are probing the case.
