A pregnant lawyer was run over in a chilling road accident that was caught on camera. The victim, identified as Advocate Najma Yasmin, was killed along with her unborn child on Saturday evening in India.
The accident took place around 5:08 p.m. in the Bajali district. Reports say the collision was on NH-27, which is located in front of Bhawanipur Regional College. Footage from a nearby CCTV camera, across the street from Najma, captured the harrowing moment Najma was struck by a speeding black motor vehicle while attempting to cross the busy highway.
Reports say that Najma had spent the earlier part of the day fulfilling her duties at the Bajali District Satra Judge’s Court. After wrapping up work, she was on her way home when she was killed on a busy road. When Najma attempted to cross the street, an e-rickshaw drove past her.
A motor vehicle was quickly approaching behind the e-rickshaw. The motor vehicle was unable to stop in time and slammed into Najma with force. The impact threw her body across the road. According to reports, the driver lost control and narrowly avoided a collision with two large trucks that passed within seconds of the initial crash.
As Najma lay injured on the road, a truck approached from the opposite direction and ran over her. KrudPlug reported that she was crushed under the weight of the truck. The first car that hit her sustained damage to its front; it came to a stop near two people sitting along the roadside, while the truck halted a few feet away with the woman still underneath.
The attorney was pronounced dead at the scene. KrudPlug reported that Najma was three months pregnant at the time of her death. Residents and loved ones are now deeply mourning the double tragedy, which is currently being probed by police.
