A 25-year-old man from Waterford, Michigan, is behind bars after admitting to fatally stabbing his fiancée, an act he later told police he had thought about doing for some time.
Seth Thomas Martin called the police to report a chilling stabbing incident at his residence on Hackett Street.
He reportedly told the Oakland County dispatcher last Friday that his fiancée was beside him and in critical condition. “She’s right next to me; she’s not doing well,” he reportedly said. He went on to reveal that he stabbed her “in the neck, the chest, and the arm a couple of times”.
Investigators said the attack occurred while the couple was lying in bed. They were reportedly gazing at his fiancée’s phone, but it was not specified what they were looking at. Without warning, Martin launched a violent assault, stabbing her around ten times. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the woman, identified as Mallory, died from her injuries.
During an interview with detectives, Martin confessed to harbouring dark thoughts long before the stabbing. He told officials he thought about stabbing and killing Mallory during the early stages of their relationship. What prompted him to act on his violent thoughts was reportedly an issue with his roommate.
The court heard that Martin believed she was affecting his relationship with his roommate, a point he used to explain his frustration. It was not clarified if his roommate was male or female.
“Seth stated that he felt like Mallory was ‘driving a wedge between him and his roommate,'” the officer shared during Monday’s arraignment. The judge, after hearing these revelations, denied bond and ordered that Martin remain in custody, saying, “It is the order of the court that the defendant be held without bond; bond is denied.”
Martin faces murder charges, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 27.
