A teenage hair stylist from Clarendon was killed after being thrown from a motorcycle during a collision. The teen, identified as Amoy Smith, was travelling along the Clarendon Park main road when the tragic crash occurred on Sunday afternoon.
Smith, who lived in Mike Town, Manchester, was a pillion passenger on a Missile-brand motorcycle around 4:45 p.m. when the incident took place. According to the Four Paths police, the motorcycle carrying the 19-year-old was heading in one direction while a grey Nissan motor truck was coming from the opposite direction.
The two vehicles collided, sending Smith off the bike and onto the roadway. She sustained multiple injuries from the impact and was transported to a hospital after Emergency services arrived on the scene. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries. No reports were made regarding the condition of the motorcycle driver and the occupant(s) of the other vehicle.
Twenty-four hours before this deadly crash, another road accident in the same parish led to the death of an 8-year-old girl and two other people. The three victims were travelling along Salt River on Sunday morning when a blue Toyota Corolla and a motor truck collided. According to police reports, the Corolla was heading right while the truck was travelling west.
Authorities in Clarendon have begun formal investigations into the two recent fatal crashes that have left the families of the victims in mourning. The probes aim to uncover the circumstances behind both incidents and whether any traffic violations played a role.
Those two latest crashes have now brought the death toll to 182 for the number of people who have lost their lives in road collisions so far this year. This was updated statistics came from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), according to the Jamaica Gleaner. The figure reflects a slight decrease when compared to 198 deaths recorded during the same timeframe in 2024.
