Police are reportedly searching for a schoolboy who was filmed striking a woman in the head with a stone in a now-viral video. The graphic footage emerged on Tuesday, sending shockwaves across social media.
The video captures the woman engaged in a conversation with a police officer while her back is turned to a young man in a khaki uniform. The student hurls a stone at the back of the woman’s head, causing her to collapse on the ground in front of the policeman.
The schoolboy immediately fled the scene, and the police appeared to chase him. Before the footage ends, the woman can be seen struggling to get up as blood apparently gushes from the back of her head.
The video was originally shared by journalist Andre Williams, but the post did not include details about the incident. However, statements emerging from the public on social media allege that the woman was travelling on a coaster bus bound for Spanish Town that departed Half Way Tree. Many students also occupied the bus, and an altercation ensued between some of the students and the woman.
The nature of the altercation is unclear. One social media claim is that one of the students was gyrating on the woman. Another allegation points to an unprovoked attack stemming from discomfort on the woman’s end due to being surrounded by schoolchildren.
Amid the dispute, the woman allegedly withdrew a knife and used it to injure around 4 students, who are said to be from different schools. It is also said that the bus conductor attempted to restrain the woman before police arrived at the scene. When the bus came to a stop in Spanish Town, the police were alerted, and an officer addressed the woman about the altercation.
It is alleged that the injured students believed the policeman was siding with the woman, leading one of them to strike her with a stone. A social media user claimed that the woman was complaining about the student’s behaviour to the police when she was attacked. She was reportedly taken to the hospital and remains in police custody.
Many were left outraged over the attack, but the anger of some social media users was short-lived after a second video surfaced showing what led up to the incident. The footage seemingly corroborated the allegation that the woman was wielding a knife on a bus, as it shows her holding a bloody knife on a public passenger bus. Students can be seen running off the bus, and when the woman exited, she was confronted by the bus conductor and another man. She was also filmed trying to stab the man in his face.
