A 56-year-old Jamaican woman is dead after a 55-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her to death during what is called a violent love triangle dispute. The accused facing a murder charge is Sharon Young, a resident of Bull Bay, St Ann.
Young, also known as Roachie, is reported to be a vendor who lives on Beach Road, Nine Miles. She reportedly dated the same man as the victim, Nicey Green-Edwards from Portland, leading to an altercation that ended with Green-Edwards suffering fatal stab wounds in East Kingston on Saturday.
The fatal incident took place on Jarrett Lane, where the man at the centre of the dispute lived with Green-Edwards. Residents say tensions had been brewing, but no one expected the situation to end in tragedy.
Witnesses recalled that Young arrived in the area that morning, allegedly angered after calling the man’s phone and hearing another woman’s voice in the background. She later confronted Green-Edwards inside the house.
An argument broke out between the two women, escalating quickly into violence. Young is accused of stabbing Green-Edwards in the neck and slashing her throat. The wounded woman was rushed to Kingston Public Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Eyewitnesses claimed Young tried to flee the scene after the stabbing but was chased down by residents, beaten, and restrained until police arrived. “Mi go see her lay down in the gutter beaten up,” one resident said, describing the chaotic aftermath.
Locals also shared their views on the situation, pointing out that none of the people involved were from Jarrett Lane. One woman commented that the man had only recently moved to the community with Green-Edwards, who was reportedly the new partner. The resident criticised Young’s actions and the violence over a relationship she claimed was already over, saying “From a man left yuh and gone, him nuh want yuh eno.”
Young was apprehended and later charged after being interviewed by police. Young remains in custody as the investigation continues.
