A restaurant employee is now fighting for her life in Colombia after being shot in the head by an armed man. The gunman entered her workplace in the La Paz district. According to a report, the female worker is 27-year-old Adaluz Pérez Santana, who worked at Arroz Paisa, located at Carrera 12E and Calle 108 in the southwest of Barranquilla.
In the footage, the establishment appeared to be empty, save for the worker and the gunman. The video begins with the suspect standing near a counter where the woman is busy doing something. It is unclear if they interacted at all before the man brandished a firearm and opened fire at her. The woman collapsed from the gunshot, and the suspect quickly fled the commercial establishment.
Police reported that the suspect had an accomplice waiting for him outside. The pair arrived at the restaurant on a motorcycle around 6:20 p.m. and fled the scene after throwing a leaflet on the floor. According to police, the pamphlet was an extortion message and was signed by the criminal group “Los Costeños.”
The warning apparently indicated that the attack most likely occurred due to failure to meet the demands of the criminal organisation. After the suspects sped off in an unknown direction, residents rushed to Pérez’s aid. With time critical and no ambulance in immediate sight, locals transported Pérez by motorcycle to Paso La Manga.
Additional footage showed her limber body on the motorcycle taking the victim away from the restaurant to the hospital while many residents gathered around them.
Medical personnel later confirmed that she had been shot in the head. She has since been hospitalised in critical condition. Meanwhile, the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police have begun probing the incident. It’s unclear if the police are aware of the shooter’s identity, whose face was visible during the incident. An operation has been launched to locate and capture the two attackers.
