Lil Nas X has many fans concerned after a surreal scene unfolded on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, early Thursday morning. The American rapper, born Montero Lamar Hill, was spotted walking nearly nude on a street before reportedly being taken to a hospital by police.
Nas was filmed by a passerby in cowboy boots and underwear, and the footage, shared by TMZ, has since gone viral. In the video, the 24-year-old artiste known for pushing boundaries both musically and visually was meandering down the street at around 4 a.m.
In response to being filmed, Nas responded by pointing at the camera and mumbling about going to a party. He was also seen placing an orange traffic cone on his head. Witnesses in the Studio City area alerted police after spotting him in the road, according to TMZ. According to police, when officers arrived at the scene, Lil Nas X charged at them, leading to his restraint. Police had him transported to a hospital for what they described as a possible overdose.
According to the report, Nas may be charged for the incident. When the news of Nas being hospitalised due to a possible overdose broke, the public quickly began dissecting the incident online. For some, the scene looked less like a health crisis and more like performance art or even a publicity stunt.
“Lil Nas X is a master marketer; don’t forget that,” one commenter wrote, predicting new music is around the corner. Others echoed the idea, pointing out his reputation for bold, attention-grabbing rollouts.
Not everyone saw humour in the situation. Some expressed genuine worry, with one user posting, “I hate this for him. Thankfully, he was taken to the hospital… smh.” Another added, “This is sad… I pray he gets the real support and love he needs.” Religious debates also flared up in the comment sections, with critics linking the incident to his past music videos and themes.
