Cardi B’s latest legal battle involves an altercation in 2018 with a former security guard, Emani Ellis, at an obstetrician’s office in Beverly Hills. The incident happened when Cardi was four months pregnant with her daughter, Kulture, and Ellis says the rapper assaulted and humiliated her.
DAY 1
Taking the stand Monday, Ellis testified that she greeted Cardi with excitement, saying, “Wow, that’s Cardi B,” but was met with hostility. According to Ellis, Cardi accused her of recording the private medical visit, spat on her, hurled insults about her weight and job, and even clawed at her face with a long fingernail, leaving a cut on her cheek.
The Los Angeles courtroom also heard from Ellis that Cardi allegedly threatened her employment, though she later admitted her firing was linked to a HIPAA violation and not the rapper’s threat.

DAY 2
However, Cardi presented a much different account on Tuesday when she took the stand. The Grammy-winning artiste admitted she used profanities and called Ellis a “bitch” but denied the confrontation ever turned physical. Instead, Cardi insisted Ellis was the aggressor, accusing the guard of following her through the building and pointing a phone at her.
She also argued that Ellis was physically bigger than her, making it unlikely she would start a fight. Cardi emphasised that no blows were exchanged during the dispute.

DAY 3
By Wednesday, the trial touched on Ellis’s motives. Cardi pushed back hard against the allegations, suggesting the civil lawsuit, seeking $24 million, was more about money than justice. She said Ellis exaggerated the events, fuelling the narrative online with “lies” that drew attention from fans. Cardi was asked why she believes the lawsuit was financially motivated, and she replied bluntly, “Because she’s suing me for $24 million.”
Cardi was also accused of causing a disturbance in the building by the plaintiff’s attorney, but she insisted that Ellis started the disturbance. The attorney also asked Cradi if her hands were occupied, indicating that she could have scratched Ellis if she wanted to. Cardi explained that she is disabled when she is pregnant, so she would not pick a fight since she could not defend herself.
