Chaos erupted in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday when a giant sinkhole suddenly appeared in the middle of a busy street, swallowing three vehicles in seconds. Videos of the road falling into a pit have gone viral. The incident unfolded around 7 a.m., according to the Royal Thai Police. When the massive sinkhole opened up, disrupting traffic flow, an urgent evacuation warning was issued.
Nearby facilities, including a hospital and a police station, were immediately cleared out as a precaution. According to reports, the sinkhole measured an estimated 98 square feet on the surface and stretched about 160 feet deep, creating a gaping crater. Despite the destruction and the loss of the three cars, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Reports from The Nation pointed to ongoing construction at a nearby subway station as a possible cause. Sinkholes are not uncommon during heavy rainfall, and Bangkok has been experiencing the force of the monsoon season with high winds and relentless downpours.
There are other horrifying sinkholes that reach astonishing depths. China is known for having one of the most famous sinkholes, located in Fengjie County, China. The enormous crater is known as the Heavenly Pit, and it drops more than 2,100 feet into the earth.

The pit is widely recognised as the deepest sinkhole in the world. It was formed through the gradual breakdown of limestone above the Difeng cave. Beneath it, an underground river continues to flow, adding to its dramatic landscape and drawing visitors who are fascinated by its scale.
Another renowned crater is the Golly Hole, which is one of the largest sinkholes. This pit is located in Alabama, United States. The ground gave way in 1972, leaving behind a crater that stretches about 120 feet deep, 325 feet long, and 300 feet wide.
