A video has gone viral of Cordova’s police chief reportedly harassing a teenage dispatcher. Chief Jason Hare in Alabama resigned after footage showing him consistently touching an 18-year-old girl surfaced. Officials have described Hare’s behaviour as inappropriate conduct, prompting an investigation.
In the footage, Hare can be seen interacting with the young dispatcher at her workstation. During the interaction, he seemingly touches her hair and leans over her shoulder. His actions raised concerns even more when he appeared to put his hands around her neck. This action was described by some as “playful”, but in the eyes of an employee, it was strange behaviour.
The video contains no audio, leaving only the visual evidence of the chief’s actions. City officials confirmed that the surveillance footage was recorded on August 26, 2025, inside the police department.
The matter was reported by an employee, who, after viewing the recording, reportedly became alarmed and checked on the dispatcher. The employee later informed supervisors, which prompted the city’s internal review.
According to the dispatcher’s family, she had been too frightened to come forward on her own. They said she was hesitant because it was her first job and involved the department’s top authority figure. “She wasn’t going to say anything because she didn’t know what to do,” a family member told AL.com.
Mayor Jeremy Pate confirmed Hare’s resignation and emphasised that the investigation remains administrative rather than criminal. Hare is a married man and also a father. His resignation came just four months into his tenure.
“We take all reports of employee misconduct seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly,” Pate said in a public statement. City officials have not announced whether a replacement has been appointed or if further disciplinary measures will follow.
