The seven-day search for the security guard accused of stealing millions from a Beryllium money courier vehicle has come to an end. The 42-year-old guard, who reportedly vanished with over $15 million in cash, was captured late Thursday at a location in St Andrew.
The St Andrew Central Police, who have been leading the investigation since the incident unfolded, confirmed his ar
rest. According to reports, the man was one of three guards assigned to a cash collection at MegaMart in St Andrew on October 11. During the operation, his colleagues went inside the establishment to complete the transaction.
However, when his colleagues returned to the armoured truck out front, they found him missing. The other guards also noticed that a significant amount of cash, estimated to be between $15 and $20 million, had disappeared. Other strange indicators that the guard had stolen the money were his uniform and the firearm, issued to him by the company, which were left behind inside the vehicle.
The arrested guard was employed by Guardsman Limited. Following his arrest, the company released a statement, confirming awareness of his arrest and expressing full support for the ongoing police investigation.
David Whittaker, Group Managing Director of the Guardsman Group of Companies, emphasised that this case was about more than recovering the stolen money. “This was not simply about recovering stolen funds, it was about defending the integrity of the hundreds of men and women who put their lives on the line every day to provide essential services to Jamaica’s businesses and banks,” Whittaker said.
He further noted that Beryllium remains firm in its stance against any form of misconduct. “We will never tolerate actions that undermine the trust, safety, or reputation of our team or our clients,” he added. While police have not confirmed whether any of the missing cash has been recovered, they say the investigation remains active.
