A taxi operator allegedly drowned this week. Although many details remain unclear, the man, known by the alias Dog Blood, reportedly lost his life during what seemed to be a casual outing at a river with a group of people, according to a video of the incident.
In the footage, the man is seen lying motionless on the ground after apparently being pulled from the water. Several individuals stand around him, and a few attempt chest compressions in an effort to revive him.
As the video continues, voices in the background urge the men assisting to take the taxi operator to a vehicle so they could transport him to a hospital. Allegations indicate he was pronounced dead after arriving.
Viewers quickly pointed out that, based on what the video shows, the attempts lacked key steps normally associated with full CPR, such as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
This raised questions for many people who watched the clip, leaving them unsure whether the man was already unresponsive beyond help or if correct intervention might have made a difference.
These concerns sparked a discussion suggesting that proper CPR could possibly have changed the outcome, while others argued that no one can know for certain what condition he was in by the time help was attempted. Still, the moment highlighted something many Jamaicans openly admitted: a general lack of CPR knowledge.
Several people expressed that they would not have known what to do in a similar situation. Others went further, stating that CPR training should be a standard part of the school curriculum.
Their reasoning was that everyday citizens often find themselves as first responders long before medical professionals arrive, especially in emergencies such as drowning incidents, where immediate action is crucial.
Although the video surfaced on Tuesday, the exact day of the incident has not yet been confirmed. There as not been an official report on the incident, but the video continues to circulate.
