A man, identified as Jermaine Davis, was killed by an angry mob of residents after he allegedly broke into a St Elizabeth home to steal items. The incident unfolded in the Bona Vista Housing Scheme in Myersville on Saturday.
According to the police report, a burglar broke into a home and then tried to flee in a black Toyota Voxy around 2:00 p.m. Davis, who was accused of being the burglar, was seen driving the same vehicle when he attempted to leave the scene as residents confronted him. Police say a struggle developed during which Davis brandished a knife. The confrontation intensified, and although he broke free and ran, residents pursued him.
Davis was eventually cornered a short distance away. The angry mob attacked him, brutally beating him. He and his vehicle were also set on fire. When the police arrived, they found him along the road with his hands and feet tied with ropes. Officers reported that he was not dead when they found him. However, when they took him to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Information circulating within the community suggests Davis may have been involved in a previous burglary in Manchester. Sources say he was beaten during that earlier incident as well. Unconfirmed reports also claim he was almost killed during that time and even arrested.
Images obtained by Moon 10 show Davis bound on the ground before being taken away by authorities, along with photos of the burnt vehicle believed to be the same Voxy he had been driving. An additional image captured him in a police service vehicle for transport to the hospital. The photos clearly show he sustained injuries to the face, and his hands were tied behind him. Moon 10 also obtained photos of Davis when he was alive, including one showing him at an event and another of him posing next to a woman.
