An elderly Clarendon man is in the hospital after he was shot by gunmen. The man was in the area of Nairne Castle in James Hill when the incident occurred on Wednesday night.
Police say that the perpetrators opened fire around 8:13 p.m. Residents heard the explosion, and the officers were called to the scene. When the police arrived, the 65-year-old was found with gunshot wounds but showed signs of life. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted for medical care.
Officers also said the gunmen set his car ablaze before fleeing the scene. The police have not yet determined the identity of the assailants or their motive. The incident is currently being investigated.
A few days ago, a house was set ablaze in the parish in a separate incident. This particular arson attack involved an elderly woman who was detained and charged with both arson and burglary. The accused, 54-year-old Jennifer Bachan, reportedly used a key to enter a man’s house in Hanvannah Heights, went inside his bedroom, and set his mattress on fire on December 12.
Bachan, a hospital attendant at a health facility in Christiana, Manchester, reportedly started the fire over a previous incident that left her with a broken leg. The reports say she was in a dispute with the man in August of this year, and it escalated. The man broke her left foot, and she was rushed to the hospital.
A report was filed with the police, leading to the arrest of the man. Police formally charged him before he was ultimately released from their custody. Bachan seemingly sought vengeance and went to the man’s house after he stepped out for some time. The neighbours spotted her when she rushed outside as the fire began to rage inside the house. Emergency responders were called, and the fire was extinguished. Bachan was subsequently arrested at the scene and charged.
