A Portmore teacher was arrested on gun-related charges after he reportedly confronted his girlfriend with a firearm on Wednesday. The teacher remains in police custody following an alleged domestic dispute at his home in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine.
According to police, the incident stemmed from an argument between the teacher and the victim, but the nature of the argument was not disclosed. Reports say that, during the dispute, relatives of the teacher were also present. As it continued, the disagreement became physical, with the woman allegedly being pushed several times during the confrontation. The situation took a more troubling turn when the man reportedly went for a firearm inside the house.
Police were told that when he returned, he was armed with a black handgun that was tucked into his waistband. He confronted his partner again, and during that second intense exchange, he reportedly brandished the weapon and pointed it at the woman.
The threatening encounter caused alarm and prompted a report to be made to the authorities. Following the report, members of the Portmore police launched an investigation into the matter. Officers later went to the man’s home, where a search was conducted. During that operation, the police reportedly found a loaded revolver. An imitation Glock pistol, along with five imitation cartridges, was also allegedly recovered.
Based on those findings, the man was taken into custody. He is currently being held on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and assault at common law. The police have not indicated whether any injuries were sustained by the woman during the incident.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. The seized items are also being examined as part of the probe. The man’s identity has not been released at this time. Police say his name is being withheld pending further investigations.
