The body of a young woman was found hanging from a tree in Manchester on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Olivia Samuels. Officers say the incident is being treated as a suspected suicide, and investigations are ongoing.
According to reports, police were alerted to the situation at about 4:30 p.m. on February 10, 2026. When police arrived at an area in Bloomwell, Spalding, officers confirmed the discovery of the lifeless body.
Investigators processed the scene, and the body was later removed. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death. Notably, sections of Spalding stretch across Manchester and Clarendon.
The incident follows other suspected suicide cases involving young people earlier in the year and in recent months. Earlier this year, a 16-year-old student reportedly died in an incident in Albert Town, Trelawny, which was also treated as a suspected suicide. Details about that case were limited at the time.
Another similar incident occurred in September 2025, when a 16-year-old student, Jamar Sergeon, died in what police also described as a suspected suicide in the same town. The teen was reportedly found in the kitchen ceiling by his mother. Her screams alerted his stepfather, who rushed to the kitchen to see the teen hanging from the ceiling.
Among the troubling suicide cases last year, one particular incident involving the former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant, Tyra Spaulding, in late September, shocked the nation. She was found dead at her home, months after publicly sharing that she had suicidal thoughts. Spaulding, who was 26 at the time, was found with a curtain tied around her neck, and police later shared that she is believed to have committed suicide.
Last year, three separate cases of suicide occurred on the same day in communities across St Catherine and St Andrew. These victims are 47-year-old Paul “Julius” in Conners, St Catherine; 23-year-old Kevon Hamilton in Greenwich Town, St Andrew; and a businessman in a St Andrew apartment complex.
